Futsal

St Andrew’s College Futsal is open to all students. We offer a range of options to ensure strong participation, and to help us cater to the ability of all our players. The philosophy of futsal at St Andrew’s is to ensure players are constantly learning and challenging themselves to improve whilst also enjoying their experience playing futsal.

Competitive teams are selected in Term 4 and participate in the local Wednesday competitions in Terms 4 and 1 respectively. Recreational futsal takes place on Wednesday afternoons on the College’s astroturf.

The top Senior boys’, Junior boys’ and girls’ teams may also play in the Mainland competitions on Sundays, and have the opportunity to attend the Regional and National Secondary Schools Tournaments, depending on results.

Facilities and Coaching

St Andrew’s is fortunate to have two indoor gymnasiums as well as an astroturf, which offer quality training and playing surfaces for our players. All of our coaches are currently Old Collegians of St Andrew’s who have excelled in futsal.

Our Senior boys’ coach, Tom McGowan, is a member of the New Zealand Men’s Futsal Whites whilst our Senior Girls’ coach, Britney-Lee Nicholson, is a member of the New Zealand Senior Women’s Futsal Ferns. Both coaches are testament to the futsal programme at St Andrew's College, which regularly produces competitive teams and players of a high calibre.

Successes

  • 2024 – Senior Girls futsal team won the NZSS National Competition;
  • 2024 – Senior Girls' futsal team won the Senior Futsal Regional Championship;
  • 2023 – Senior Girls' futsal team won the Senior Futsal Regional Championship;
  • 2022 – Senior Girls' futsal team won the Senior Futsal Regional Championship;
  • 2021 – Junior Girls' futsal team won the Junior NZSS National Competition;
  • 2021 – Junior Girls' futsal team won the Junior Futsal Regional Championship;
  • 2021 – Senior Girls' futsal team won the Senior Futsal Regional Championship.

New Zealand Representatives

  • Britney Lee Nicholson (OC 2017) represented New Zealand and became the top goal scorer of the New Zealand Futsal Ferns in 2023.
